Clarity over complexity
A sophisticated plan should still be understandable. If you cannot explain the strategy to your spouse, the plan needs more work.
Our Story
Equipath Wealth Partners was founded in 2018 on a single premise: equity compensation deserves a planning practice built around it. Sarah Mitchell earned the CFP® and CEPA® designations and designed the firm so that the decisions driving a technology career — vesting, exercise timing, concentration, and tax — sit at the centre of the work rather than at the edge of an annual review.
That work is now carried by a small group of advisors who study the tax rules, planning mechanics, compensation structures, and behavioral patterns that repeatedly affect people working in technology. Quarterly conversations begin with the equity picture. Tax planning happens throughout the year. Your CPA is part of the process. And we are willing to say no to engagements that only involve managing a portfolio, because focus is an operating decision here.
Our Principles
A sophisticated plan should still be understandable. If you cannot explain the strategy to your spouse, the plan needs more work.
We begin with the decision that needs to be made. Investments are one tool inside that work.
Saving a dollar of tax this year can be a poor decision if it costs several dollars later. We evaluate decisions against the longer horizon.
Clients should understand why a recommendation exists, where the tradeoffs sit, and what would cause the recommendation to change.
Meet the Founder
Founder, Equipath Wealth Partners
Before founding Equipath Wealth Partners, Sarah Mitchell spent over a decade working on financial teams at technology companies in San Francisco and New York City.
She saw first-hand how stock-based compensation changed people's financial lives.
One colleague exercised options without understanding the tax result. Another sold ESPP shares just weeks before receiving more favorable tax treatment. Others accumulated vested RSUs year after year because every decision to sell felt like a bet against the company that had built their careers.
Several already had advisors. Those advisors managed investments well enough. But the equity-compensation questions were handled at an annual review, referred to the CPA, or discussed after the transaction had already happened. For the people Sarah wanted to help, that was backwards.
The company stock was driving the taxes, the investment risk, the retirement timeline, the cash-flow decisions, and often the emotional relationship with money itself.
So she built a practice around it.
